Hello Everyone! Hope you have all been out enjoying the beautiful fall weather. Please find below some of the current happenings and information from Fort Saskatchewan Nordic Ski Club!

Registration

This year we will be providing our members with an opportunity to register online. Please check the website on October 16 for registration details and instructions for using the zone4 registration system. Go to www.zone4.ca and explore the "Club Registrations" section. The Fort Saskatchewan Nordic Ski Club will appear in this section shortly.

 Website

We have done some major renovations and I encourage you to check the site regularly for updates on club activities and news.

Dow Community Grant

FSNSC is proud to announce that it is the recipient of a $5000 Dow Community Grant. The club will use the grant to assist in the purchase of a 2012 SkiDoo Skandic SWT to replace one of our ageing Alpines.

Blast from the Past!-Call for Photos

The FSNSC encourages club members past and present to send in a few of their favourite photos of club events or activities from years gone by. These photos will be added to the photo gallery. Please add the year that each photo was taken to its`file name, for example, jackrabbits_1999.jpg so that the photo can be placed in its correct folder. A new feature of the website is the "Blast from the Past". From time to time, a few shots taken from those submitted by an individual club member will be featured in the "Blast". The current collection of shots are courtesy of John Hall. Equipment Lease

The club will again have Jackrabbit Ski equipment available for lease. The equipment will be loaned out on a first come first serve basis. No equipment will be loaned out on the first day of Jackrabbits. Please make arrangements to have your child(ren) fitted beforehand. A limited amount of Adult equipment is also available and will be given out only to those Adults who have registered in the “Adult Learn to Ski Program.” Equipment will be available for pick-up on the following days:

November 20, 2011 and December 11, 2011

Dryland Training

The Track Attack program has started their fall season of dryland training. If you have a child who is interested in participating please contact Vaughn McGrath at 992-1735. This program runs Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00pm and Sunday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:00pm.

Adult Fitness Program

Is a program for adults with emphasis on building strength and aerobic fitness, while improving both classic and skate skiing techniques. A basic understanding of classic and skate techniques is required. The program includes both pre-season and on-snow components and runs Thursdays 6:30pm to 8:00pm September through March. There is a cost of $60.00 for the program.

Coaching Clinic

We have tentatively booked a coaching clinic on October 15, 2011. If you are at all interested in learning the basic principles of coaching we would love to have you join us. We are always in need of coaches for the Jackrabbit program. Skiing ability is not a requirement of the program. If you love spending time with the kids teaching is a great opportunity. Technique will come with practice!

Fall Clean-up

We will gather at the Ski Club October 22 from 9am to 12:00pm to prep the site for the ski season. We need help in the chalet with general cleaning and support outside with tree trimming and grass cutting as well as many other jobs. Let me know if you are interested in helping out! We will certainly find you something to do!

Fall General Meeting

The Fort Saskatchewan Nordic Ski Club Fall General Meeting will be held October 16, 2011 at the Ski Chalet. Please look for further details here soon.
