Fort Saskatchewan Trail Report

March 29, 2025 Update - Wetlands, Oxbow (skate lane) and the Sprint Loop section of WRE Park were groomed this morning.  Expect some icy and grassy sections in the classic tracks, with the exception of some soft areas skate lanes are good.

Cross Country Ski Trail Ratings 

Excellent – 90-100% of the area has exceptional snow cover with no local conditions to impair skating or classic skiing with perfect classic track including hard poling track and perfectly formed combed rilled pattern on the skate lanes.

Very Good – 90-100% of the area has exceptional snow cover with the occasion minor local conditions that may impair skating or classic skiing (eg some grass or other debris in spots) with good formed classic track including firm poling track, and firm formed combed rilled pattern 90% of the time on the skate lanes

Good - 90-100 % of the area has ample snow cover; with a few icy rough conditions, that may impair formation of molded classic tracks , classic ski track in all sections. Can also include soft snow conditions (eg after lots of fresh snow) that may have a soft poling track with baskets breaking through in some areas. Skating skiing lanes may be medium hardness(in new snow conditions) with some combed rilled pattern showing 50% or more .

Fair – 90-100% of the area has adequate snow cover with some icy/rough sections, pine needles, grass or bare patches, with some combed rilled pattern on skating lanes. Or the skate lanes may be shallow or very soft if lots of fresh snow. May not have a classic track, if classic track it may be shallow or poor quality – very soft or no formed molded classic tracks in some sections.

Poor – 90-100% of the area is not recommended for skiing due to large bare patches and exposure obstacles or extremely icy conditions.
